Sad Passing of Benny Richardson – Sunday 21st December 2025
I am afraid I am the bearer of some more bad news.
Benny Richardson sadly passed away yesterday (Sunday 21st December) in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary (HRI). I do not know any more details.
Benny did most of service in the Dewsbury, Batley and Kirklees areas with a short spell at Brighouse I believe when he was promoted to Inspector
Benny was a Dewsbury Narpo member and up to recent times was a regular attendee at the Mirfield meetings.
I will circulate the funeral details once I know them.
Below is a message from his son Brian Richardson. Most people will have known Brian as Benny or young Benny as most people used that name because of his dad.

It is with immense sadness I have to announce the passing of my Dad – Retired Detective Inspector Bernard (Ben) Richardson. Dad died peacefully in the early hours of this morning at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after a very brief stay in hospital.
I was at his side throughout his final journey, watching a video of his Grandson Elliott playing Rugby League as he passed away.
Dad was an outstanding Detective, we often spoke about how many ‘wrong uns’ the pair of us locked up in our combined 65 years’ service.
I hope he can now listen to Garth Brooks watch plenty of Rugby League (not that kick and clap ) and tell some tales now he is at peace.
Further details to follow – any ex colleagues reading this please feel free to share.
As the title of his book says “ Tha’s got to laugh “.
Funeral Details
The funeral is at 1.15pm on Tuesday 13th January 2026 at Dewsbury Crematorium.
There will be a celebration of his life at Shaw Cross Rugby Club following the service.
